Elephant Love

I look at elephants with endearment. They are by far one of the world's greatest natural beauties; they just hold so much love, charm and personality in their eyes and their gentle natures. These beautiful mammals did feature on the S/S'13 catwalks, with Issa including extra-smiley miniature versions on their rainforest themed frocks. But wearing an elephant isn't about fashion. To me, an elephant motif speaks beauty, grace and wisdom. And you never know, wearing a piece with one of these gorgeous creatures on may encourage people to think twice and support anti elephant-hunting schemes. They say an elephant never forgets, though we should not forget the elephants.

Seaside & Sweetie Stripes

Stripes appeared in abundance on this season's runway circuit. Evoking only dreamy images- of stylish lines of deckchairs along the French riveria, scrumptiously sticky slabs of rock and other rainbow coloured candy, fun-promising festival big-tops and fruit pastel lollies- the stripe is an emblem of summer (though the maroon in Zara's striped mini will take you through to Autumnal days). Zara Home's picture frame is no doubt influenced by Marc Jacobs' sleek monochrome silhouettes, while Pompom & Twiddle's adorable milkshake straws are the simplest yet sassiest way to jump in on the 'walk the line' craze.

The Pretty Junk Takeover

Diane= a Pretty Junk gal at heart
I am so thrilled to have had a short but sweet guest blog posted on The Pretty Junk blog. In case your radar needs updating (!) The Pretty Junk are a beyond cool brand dedicated to vintage and alternative modern clothing. Their awesome tagline- "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening"- is a piece of genius that speaks volumes. Personally I love the idea that fashion reflects life, and life's happenings, as well as individual characters, and so I chose to write about the lovely Diane Kruger, as she is one of those.
Check out my blog post at the link below, and be sure to head to The Pretty Junk site to browse their eclectic selection of slogan tees and tanks, patterned-pocket hot pants, festival essentials and uh-mazing accessories. (I need every one of those floral crowns and co-ordinating pairs of flower-adorned sunnies!)

My Little English Country Garden

My family and I spent a lovely day yesterday relaxing in our relatively small but perfectly formed back garden (before the thunderstorm paid a visit!) We split our time between the field we rent, which has much more room for activities such as badminton and of course, horse-riding! It also has the wonderful allotment. But you can't beat the charm of our quaint little garden, so I thought I'd offer you a mini tour, as I rarely do lifestyle posts and fancy a change! Welcome to our botanical haven...

Go through an archway and over the old, round stepping stones, and here we are. There is a sweet tiny pond to the left, amongst the shrubbery... the cats have fallen in many a time!

One of many visitors to the blooms...

A spot of light reading... complete with Mum's comfy checked picnic blanket and Cath Kidston-esque cushions!
Look who joined me for the goss! Bella, our fifty-year-old tortoise. (She loves having her shell painted- it's the tortoise equivalent of nails! ;)
This is Bella's house. Complete with her own swimming pool. A very important part of the garden! And it looks super cosy!

For some peculiar reason we have a mirror in our hedge- but I think it looks gorgeous among the flowers, very Alice in Wonderland-y.

I adore our chiminea- it's lovely and toasty in the winter, when we sit on the patio and drink and talk until late :)
Pretty purple wildflowers.

A better view of our patio table and chairs- just fab for light, summer lunches and card games!

Another keen visitor!

Our hand-built (by my DIY God of a Dad!) gazebo is like another room of our house. You can read in there, the cat sleeps in there... it's cute. Minus the odd spider!
The gazebo interior. Onions- oh, so French.

The Delicacy Decorum

Diane in an embellished cami-top gown= these straps are
 the epitome of delicate
Every time I head to the shops recently, I seem to be fixated on picking up camisoles. Deliciously dainty and ready to be teamed with everything, the cami is a necessity in a girly girl's wardrobe. Compared to some of the more avoidable 90's comeback trends on this year's catwalks, the return of the simple slip is more than welcome in my book. Working as that easy transition from daytime to playtime, the true cami comes with spaghetti straps (try a crossover back for variation!) and more often than not, a slinky sheen. Think Celine's powdery pink silk-satin, matched with soft hair and iridescent skirts at S/S'13 Paris Fashion Week, or the edgier lingerie-look dresses in sheer and python print from Preen's sultry season offering. Lingerie rails often boast long-line camisoles that can effortlessly glide into your everyday wardrobe, plus you get the bonus luxe effect, so remember they're worth a browse!
Miss Selfridge Lurex Cami £22

Beautiful fabric and a plunge neckline= Celine's take
 on the 90's comeback trend
Preen's luxurious slip dresses (teamed with elegant strappy sandals!)
American Apparel Charmeuse Camisole £16
The factor that secures the camisole as your new best friend, is that it will bond with your skinniest pencil skirts, your beach-bound cut-offs, your comfiest palazzo pants, your flirty skater skirts, and even your most worn-in jeans. Because worn-in looks vintage, darling! The cami carries the ethereal beauty reminiscent of 1920's flapper ladies, so why not maximise on glamour? Add your best pearls for evening drinks, or if you're all for adding a touch of contemporary chic to your outfits, accessorize with a glitzy ear cuff, shown off with a strategically-messy topknot. Gem-work on your camisoles themselves will adhere to the embellishment craze laid on by the likes of Dolce and Gabbana's Sicilian cathedral inspired S/S'13 show. Though it is barely there, the cami will remain a loyal friend through the autumn months. swap pastel-colours for the types of moody blooms seen on the A/W'13 runway circuit- Christopher Kane and Valentino both rocked the darker side of florals with stained lips and bags of attitude.

Transfer Valentino's dusky florals to cami tops come September/October
Topshop Printed Jersey Cami Top £20
For ultimate elegance, invest in a pair of strappy sandals- the perfect shoe to parade your collection of equally as effeminate camisoles in. River Island's just-touched-down Barely There Stiletto Sandals come in a palatable array of colours, from electric blue and sunshine yellow to the prettiest metallic lilac.

River Island Barely There Stiletto Sandals in Purple Metallic £45
H&M Straw Hat With Bow £7.99
